GREATER WASHINGTON PUSH HANDS GATHERING
This quarterly edition of this long-standing event took place at the Cabin John Regional Park on Saturday April 1, 2023 from 1-6 PM. Ladies only were invited to begin their Push Hands practice from 1-2 PM. Then from 2 - 6PM the Tai Chi Court was opened to any and all participants. This free outdoor event has continued to attract practitioners from up and down the east coast for almost 20 years. Joanne Chang has kept it going since the initiator of this quarterly event, Sifu David Chen, passed on in 2005. About 4o people attended the gathering. The weather was supposed to be rainy all day but the Tai Chi deities were with us and the weather was warm and dry with a slight breeze. Interestingly enough; it started raining as we were all done for the day. It was a relaxed event with many teachers and practitioners of all levels in attendance. 7 WST participants took part and a good time was had by all.
KUOSHU LEGACY TOURNAMENT- SUNDAY APRIL 23rd
The 16th Annual Legacy Tournament took place at the Delta Hotel in Hunt Valley MD. This invitational event serves as a tune-up event for the larger Kuoshu International Tournament that takes place at the same venue during the weekend of July 28-30, 2023. It is a good practice event for several other events which take place this Summer and Fall. This years’ event seemed significantly larger than previous years with many Tai Chi, Xing-I and weapons competitors. Our own, Alex Zito competed as our school’s sole representative in his first venture into competition. He earned bronze medals in both restricted step and moving step push hands. He tied for first place in Xing-I Chuan and finished second after calculations went to the hundredths of a point to determine the winner. The event was organized and well run and it has become a good event to participate in. We look forward to attending again next year.
